It is interesting that I find many Calligraphy artists trying to imitate the classical aqlam al-sitta, famous six Arabic calligraphy styles. New enthusiasts usually start out with a lot of love for this form of art but they soon find out major road blocks. I have often heard "You have to be a natural artist" otherwise stick to your IT profession :) Needless to say, I do not agree with these sentiments. Giving up on anything will only make you a "LOSER". People do art because they are passionate about creating aesthetics. So next time you pick up the brush or pen don't ask yourself "Are you natural?" but ask "how passionate are you about Islamic art?"

Artwork featured in Nigaah Magazine, Arts & Culture from South Asia,
January 2011.
Here's more information about my recent exposure to Nigaah Art Magazine, featuring Arts & Culture from South Asia. I have seen some recent oil paintings of artists from Karachi - very vibrant indeed. It is really great to find out art hubs in these 'unexpected' non-Western places. I must say be ready for a SURPRISE...
